    21 February 07 - 15:57Record Amount rasied for Scouts

Taken from Bath Chronicle 19th Feb 2007

Youngsters in Combe Down can look forward to a brighter future thanks to the efforts of a local women's group.

The 10th Bath Scout group based at Firs Field in Combe Down received a boost when Combe Down Ladies Group raised £1,200 to revamp the youngsters' kitchen.

Each year the group picks a local charity to raise funds for over the year, and it chose the Scouts for 2006 because members were concerned about their facilities.

The money, which was raised through table sales and raffles, is being spent on a new kitchen.

Ladies group programme co-ordinator Jean Rendall said: "They have needed this revamp for ages, the current facilities are very bad. The group is not really able to invite other groups over because of this.

"This is the most we have raised. People were just so sympathetic about the cause - they really took it to heart."

The ladies' group meets monthly and has a range of events taking place throughout the next few months.

Already this year they have enjoyed talks by Dr Bruno Kasteliz on 18th-century Viennese medicine, while Janet Parrott gave a talk entitled Chatelaines - Trash, Trinkets Or Treasure.

The charity for 2007 is Bath City Farm and the next meeting on March 14 will include a talk by a farm representative who will be bringing a chicken along to the session. It is being held at St Peter and St Paul's Church sacristy from 7.30pm. All are welcome.
