Two teenagers from Bath have made the entertainment team for the 21st World Scout Jamboree next year. The event, celebrating 100 years of Scouting, is being held from July 27 to August 8 in Chelmsford, Essex.

More than 40,000 members of the Scout movement from across the world will take part and the two Bath performers will be among them.

Yvonne Beach, 17, who is in the sixth form at Hayesfield Technology College, joined the Bath and District Scout Gang Show in 2003.

She is a member of the Phoenix Explorer Scout Unit in Combe Down, and was a member of the Girl Guide movement through Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and the Trelawney Rangers.

Chris Cook, 19, has been a member of the Bath Gang Show cast for eight years, and is now assistant director for sketches on the production team.

Prior to this he took part in shows at the 13th Bath (Oldfield Park Baptist) Group, of which he has been a member since joining as a Beaver, and then progressing through the Cubs and Scouts.

He then moved into young leadership and is about to take out a warrant in the Beaver section. He attended Culverhay School and now works full-time training to be a coach at the Baskerville Gym.

Before the jamboree both will be rehearsing and then performing in the 2007 Gang Show at Easter.

It is being staged at the Kingswood Theatre, Lansdown, from April 11-14.

    05 December 06 - 16:34Mayor Welcomes Cubs and Brownies

Taken From Bath Chronicle 2nd December 2006

Scouts, Cubs, Brownies and members of the city's Rainbows group all enjoyed a tour of Bath's corridors of power.

The Rainbows, who are the youngest group in the Girl Guiding movement, brightened up the Mayor's Parlour during a visit to learn more about the city's history.

The girls, members of the 2nd South East Bath Rainbows, visited the Mayor of Bath, Cllr Carol Paradise, as part of her theme to always work with children and animals.

The group also had a chance to ask her questions about her role.

Catherine Wakefield, the group's leader, said: "All the girls really enjoyed speaking with the mayor and taking a look at some of the treasures in the parlour.

"She even let them try on her robe and medals."

The 51st Bath (Victoria Hall) Brownies and 21st Bath (Victoria Hall) Scout groups also enjoyed a tour.

Cub Scout leader Paul Swift, who took a tour group of about 25 boys, said: "It was very good.

"The mayor was very nice, and they gave us food to eat and orange juice, which disappeared very rapidly.

"They all enjoyed it, and I found it very interesting myself."

Elizabeth Mence, the mayor's secretary, said: "It has been nice to get members of the younger generation into the parlour to learn more about the history of the mayoralty in Bath.

"All the groups have really enjoyed it, and the mayor is expecting more young visitors."
